The thing about not shopping is being forced to create new outfits with the clothes already in your closet. Recently I have been trying to think of it like this: what pieces did I not have last Winter? From there styling those pieces with old things to create a new this season outfit. These jeans, for instance, are new since this past summer, this turtleneck tee is an Old Navy gem from last year and the coat and boots are a few years old!
What are ways your make shopping your closet not so….depressing?
Stumped on what to wear to a holiday party? Want to be sexy without being in your face sexy? Throw on a long duster cardigan over your slip dress. It is easy to throw off when the glasses of champagne give you extra confidence.
The dress I am linking below is velvet and such a great price! Honestly, any “little black dress” can be made holiday with a red lip!
This outfit came together when I was staying at my parents for Thanksgiving and didn’t know we would be going out Friday night. The sweater alone with partial leather leggings was meh so to my brothers closet it was. The man has more white button downs so I went for one that was in between casual and formal so it was a little lighter under a sweater. Anyone else find that they become a little preppier in the fall/winter? Something about the layers, I am more drawn to more conservative/classic pieces vs loose boho looks.
Highland Park during the holidays is probably one of my favorite things about Houston. The giant bows and lights mixed with the palm trees get me every time.
Monochromatic navy has always been a favorite of mine, it’s not overly bold but enough of a statement. This sweater is probably my favorite because it’s navy, cashmere and a turtleneck. Virginia always reminds me that turtlenecks can be sexy and I so agree. Paired with skinnies and a brown over the knee boots, score. Just need to get those boots haha.
The hair bow trend, what do y’all think about it? I have personally always loved a bow but without knowing, if I wanted to buy a real one I improvised. Of course, Donni has my back with their new silk scarves! The colors are so rich and perfect for fall. You can really use any silk scarf for your hair, just ensure it is long enough. Well, wait if it is too long, wrap it around your hair a second time before knotting.
Have you started planning your Thanksgiving day outfit? I always try and tone down what I want to wear because my mom gives me a hard time for caring hah.
I feel like this outfit is something I wore all the time in Nashville. Easy, comfortable and slightly “cool girl” without being trendy. This outfit was planned to go alongside the easy fall layering outfit post but ya know with different shoes and a jacket.
The thinking is you start with an outfit base, skinny jeans + a tee shirt and what you add on from there can bring your outfit to many different vibes. Adding a blazer and booties is a little more traditional or you can add a leather jacket and sneakers for something slight edgy. This is why I invest in staples because no matter your mood you’re always going to wearing them.
Sweaters sometimes have the assumed reputation of being frumpy or not sexy but clearly not this one. To ensure I don’t mislead you there is no closure on this anywhere so leaning over, driving and sometimes sitting lead to more exposure. I personally love a lace bralet peak a boo moment but for the occasions where that is not appropriate or if you are not into that a silk tank under would be perfect. I specify silk because it won’t cling to the sweater and will keep it sexy.
Another great way to style this criss-cross sweater would be with leather leggings or skinny jeans with over the knee boots….talk about sexy!
